so, yeah: i fail. alot. that’s what happens, ok. you know how it is. sometimes you try, and it just crumples, or fractures, or falls, or smears, or shatters, or shorts out, or… just, fails. over and over. and there you are. yeah, fine.

so then, sometimes, you gather up that broken thing, that pile of disappointment, gather it up in your arms and dump it into a bowl and shake it and stir it and mix it up, and make it into… cake. nice, big, failure cake. bake it up and let it cool, icing, maybe add a few sprinkles -- failure cake.

so now cut yourself a big ol’ slice of that failure cake, that you worked so hard on, and fork it into your mouth. mmmmm… failure cake! big old smile on your face and you start chewing on that cake. with gusto! chew chew chew… yum! smacking your lips. it’s cake, after all, you like cake. everybody likes cake, yessir.

munching on that failure cake. it’s moving from one side of your mouth to the other, as it breaks down and mixes with your saliva and releases its complex deeper… flavor. it’s true essence. like salt, and bile, and rancid and etched aluminum. but keep working it! it’s cake, dammit! you made it, and you’re gonna eat it. eat the whole goddam thing! like some masochist monk practicing mindfulness by chewing one bite of rice 10,000 times...

c’mon now. who are you kidding? what are you trying to prove? you don’t have to, do this thing. put it down. spit it out. throw it away. dig a hole in the backyard and bury it. put it in a bag with a brick and heave it into the lake. fuck it. give it up. it’s goddam failure cake, for cryin out loud! what are you thinking?
